About Tubrya

What is Tubrya?

Tubrya (full name: YouTube™ to Text - Tubrya) is a free Chrome extension that shows the transcript of any YouTube video next to the player. You can download it as text or subtitles, summarize the video with AI, and ask questions about it. Answers include timestamps that jump to the right moment.

Is Tubrya free?

Yes. Transcripts, downloads, caption translation and the library are free with no limits and no account. AI summaries and questions are free for 5 uses a day after signing in with Google. Pro ($4.99 a month or $29.99 a year) raises this to 60 a day.

Which browsers does Tubrya work in?

Google Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS. It also works in most Chromium browsers that install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, such as Edge, Brave and Opera.

Using Tubrya

Which videos does it work with?

Any YouTube video that has captions, including YouTube's automatically generated ones. Most videos have them. If a video has no captions at all, there is no text to show.

Where does the panel appear?

On a video page, the Tubrya panel sits above the recommended videos on the right. You can collapse it with the arrow in its header.

Can I get the transcript in another language?

Yes. Pick any caption language the video offers, or tick the translate option to use YouTube's own translation into your language.

What can I download?

Plain text (.txt) for reading and notes, and .srt or .vtt subtitle files for video editors and web players. Summaries can be saved as Markdown (.md) from your library.

How do I change the language of the extension?

Tubrya follows your Chrome language automatically. To change it, use the globe menu in the panel header or the language setting on the Settings page. 52 languages are available.

Where is my library stored?

Only in your browser on this computer. It isn't uploaded anywhere, so it won't appear on another computer. Removing the extension deletes it.

AI summaries and questions

Why do I need to sign in for summaries?

Summaries and answers are written by an AI service that costs money to run. Signing in with Google lets us give each person 5 free uses a day and keep the service fair. We only receive your name and email address.

How accurate are the summaries?

They are based only on the video's transcript, so they are usually close to what was said. Automatic captions can contain mistakes, and AI can misread things. Check important details against the video using the timestamps.

What languages can summaries be written in?

In your interface language, the video's language, or English. Choose this in the Summary tab.

Does a very long video work?

Yes, up to roughly several hours of speech. If a video is too long, you'll see a message saying so.

Plans and billing

How do I upgrade?

Two ways. In the extension: sign in with Google, press Go Pro in the panel and choose monthly, yearly or lifetime. On this website: pick a plan on the pricing page and pay with the same email as your Google account; the plan turns on when you sign in to the extension with that account. Payments are handled securely by Lemon Squeezy.

I paid but Pro didn't turn on. What should I do?

Make sure you're signed in to the extension with the same email you used to pay, then reload the YouTube page. If you paid with a different email, write to support@tubrya.app with both addresses and we'll move the plan to your account.

How does the Lifetime plan work?

You pay $84.99 once and keep 40 AI summaries or questions a day for as long as Tubrya is offered, with all updates included. It's limited to the first 50 buyers and isn't a subscription, so there's nothing to cancel.

How do I cancel?

For monthly or yearly Pro, press Manage subscription in Settings. You can cancel there in one click. Pro stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.

Who is Lemon Squeezy?

Lemon Squeezy is our reseller (merchant of record). They process the payment, handle taxes and send your receipts. We never see your card details.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of your first payment. See the refund policy for details.

Privacy

Does Tubrya see my YouTube history?

No. The extension only reads the captions of the video you are watching, and only when you ask for them. It doesn't track what you watch.

What happens to the text I send to the AI?

The transcript and your question are sent to our server and to Google's Gemini AI to write the answer. We don't store them on our server. Full details are in the privacy policy.

Is Tubrya made by YouTube?

No. Tubrya is an independent product. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.
